Foreigner joining the Marines?

Just have a question,
Are foreigners allowed to join the Marines? or infact any Military Force in the U.S.A?

Im guessing yes. And assuming that to do so they would have to go through the processes of becoming and American Citizen and so on. And then you would be free to do as you wish. But please correct me if im wrong.

Just curious. Myself and a good friend of mine deeply thought about it from the age of 18 up until just before joining the Police Force here in Australia. The Australian Army just doesnt sound to Appealing especially after knowing so many soldiers and ex-soldiers who serve/served with the Australian Defence Force.

And who knows, maybe i wont last in the Police Force? Dont get me wrong, i love my job, and now i have the chance to serve in the Tactical side of it, i love it even more.
But maybe one day the Police just wont cut it for me and i might be on the next flight to the U.S? And i must say, the first Recruitment Office i walked in over there would have the Eagle Globe and Anchor on thier door.

Do any of you know any Foreigners who serve in the U.S?

Would be great to get some feed back.

Take care and stay safe

Re: Foreigner joining the Marines?

http://immigration.about.com/od/usci...CitizenIss.htm has a little information on it. You don't have to be a citizen to enlist, but you do have to be a permanent resident, and you can't be an officer.

Re: Foreigner joining the Marines?

Thanks Brad, has given me a little more insight. I mean if i did go ahead with it. I would directly call or contact the Marine Recruitment. But thanks for the link anyhow.

Just wanted to see what feedback i got from all of you in here.

Whats your opinions on Foreigners serving within the U.S Military?

Re: Foreigner joining the Marines?

I've served with many foreigners. Especially Irish, P. Ricans and Mexicans. All as good as any American. Matter of fact a guy I work with now is prior Marine Corps. and he's not a citizen still (Dundalk, Ireland)

Re: Foreigner joining the Marines?

I wouldn't reccomend sneaking into the country just to join the
Marines, but there are a number of ways to come into the country legally and then join. Good luck.

Re: Foreigner joining the Marines?

I have served with many good Marines who were not US citizens. Many use it as a path to citizenship these days. A lot will depend on which country you come from -- Australia shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Foreigner joining the Marines?

From what I understand all you need is a green card. One of the recruiters in the office is a citizen of Canada and not a US citizen, and he's been in the Corps for almost 8 years now.

Re: Foreigner joining the Marines?

I dont know about nowadays but back in the '80's it seemd that at the very least, half the Marines I served with were "other than US citizen", mostly Philipean but many from other places. We used to joke about the USMC being the American Foriegn Legion. As far as serving with "other than US citizens", personally, except for the accents, I wouldnt have known the difference.
