Important Question...

I have signed up for the Navy just a few months ago. My ship date is approximately 3 months from now. But I have been getting second thoughts. I just got a phone call this morning from a good buddy of mine (just graduated from navy boot camp today), and it wasn't any of what I expected. Not saying anything bad about the Navy, but I feel as if it's not the place for me.

More importantly, my question is if I can switch services out of the Navy and into the Corps?
What kind of procedures will I have to go through to make this work?
Or is this not possible at all.

James.

Re: Important Question...

First priority - go talk to a Marine recuiter now. Don't wait.

I'm not going to comment on whether or not it is feasible to make the switch, but your odds are much better BEFORE you ship out than after.

Re: Important Question...

Talk to the Marine Recruiter first, if you talk to the Navy one (im not saying this will happen) he might be pissed off that he lost a contract to another service and do something to your packet.

Re: Important Question...

Yeah I know what you mean.
I've been avoiding my Navy recruiter for awhile.
I have a feeling he knows something is going on.

I guess I'll go talk to the Marine recruiter tomorrow, even though the Navy and Marine recruiting center is in the same building. I'm pretty sure my Navy recruiter will see me. Oh well.
Thanks for the replies.

James

Keep us posted...others might fall in the same situation and will benefit from any information that you can provide with this transition..

Re: Important Question...

First things first, you have probably been down to the MEPS station and been sworn in and signed your contract but guess what. You can quit at any time. Your contract doesn't become active until you get to boot. Even once you are there you have 4 nights after you are dropped into your training unit during which you can still quit if you wanted. Its not till after you really start training that you are really under contract. I had a buddy who swore in with me but he got out about 2 weeks later. As far as which service to join, that is entirely up to you. Different strokes for different folks. As a Marine I love the Corps but it isn't for everyone. Besides you can always become a corpsman and hang out with Marines all the time. Marines may not like the Navy but we love our corpsmen.

Re: Important Question...

So did you forget about us????
You can always try to apply for one if the "high speed" Navy schools, if the regular Navy isn't good enough for you. Have you talked to more than that one friend? WHat job are/were you going to do?

Re: Important Question...

I am sure that the Marine Recruiter will talk to you and yes you are not obligated to go into the Navy until you are actually inducted, however a good recruiter is going to give a long discourse on "obligation" and will probably try to talk you into meeting the one you have already taken.....at least I hope so
