A far cry from Frescesco Schettino's behavior. The Captain of the doomed Cost Concordia (aka "Chicken of the Sea") claims that he tripped and fell into a lifeboat. He must have been drunk!!!

Re: This is the way men should act as the ship sinks
As a professional seafarer, I am disgusted at this person's behavour and conduct. Even the Chief Officer (2ic) was in the Lifeboat with him! It looks as though it was left to the junior ship's officer's and Ratings to carry out the Abandon Ship procedure with no direction from the Ship's Command.
Maybe the British/US sense of fair play and honour does not extend to the Italians? Please correct me if I am mistaken. -Doc |

According the news reports I read, it was left up to the passengers to figure out for themselves. Doozie of a crew. And it's technically another carnival/princess owned ship.
