Question for a Marine
First things off im just a civilian but i've got a general curiousity question about Marines. my ex-girlfriend is in the army and was looking for a roommate, i knew a girl who says she was in the Marines and i figured with their military backgrounds they would make good roommates. Unfortunatly, things went very sour and we're starting to wonder about her character. Many lies were being told and I'm even doubting her "Marine stories." She is 23 years old and when she said she was 21 she "led men into battle under a special ops mission." She claims she was shot and lost 4 or 5 men. I asked if she recieved a purple heart and she claims that since it was "top secret mission" the Marines did not give her a purple heart, instead she said she recieved either a bronze or silver star?...not sure bout that, question is, my other friend that is in the army is starting to think that the Marine's would never in the first place allow a female to lead men into battle, a young 21 year old one at that, and im questioning her whole "not allowed to recieve a purple heart" story as well. We'd like to confront her on her lies if this is what they could possibly be because one it would let everyone else know what kind of person this is and two, its just wrong to lie about military service and losing men, being shot, etc when "real" Marines have to deal with this subject daily. Any info would be greatly apprieciated and thank you, Troy Hicks

Re: Question for a Marine
one word, starts with B ends wth T........unfortunately being in the Marines (or any service for that matter) doesnt ensure people have good character or are not liars.

Re: Question for a Marine
She might not even have been a Marine. Lots of folks claim to be one that never served.
I've ran accross "Marines" that didnt even know what the Eagle Globe and Anchore was. -Mac |

Re: Question for a Marine
as from what i know, i think she is lying. I haven't seen nor ever heard of a female leading a platoon or a squad of marines into combat ever. As a reservist i've heard alot of stories some true some lies, i think she is pulling your leg. As far as "not being able to receive a purple heart"...... anyone who is injuried by an enemy when fighting is given a purple heart.

Re: Question for a Marine
Not a Marine but, if I may...
Not always true. If you are injured during a classified engagement you may not receive one. However if she received either a Bronze/Silver Star, then there is no reason she couldn't have gotten a Purple Heart. Ask to see her citation. Actually you would be more likely to get a PH than another medal, because a PH doesn't have an accompanying citation. -Rich |

Re: Question for a Marine
The next time you see her ask her about her special mission, then laugh as hard as you can and yell that word that begins in "B" and ends in "T" (I was also being politically correct) |
