USMCR then Marine Option NROTC

I was thinking of applying and hopefully getting into the Marine Option NROTC scholarship program. However, I do still want some enlisted experience.
I've heard of some people joining the USMCR then applying for the Marine Option NROTC scholarship program. They can just leave there USMCR unit and go their NROTC unit and college.
Say I do this, how long would I have to wait from the time I finish Boot Camp and SOI to the time I can start applying and transfer to my NROTC unit and college? Also, does anyone see any drawbacks to this? Other than being behind in age a couple years.

You can apply whenever. The problem is being competitive. Those slots aren't given away!

Indeed, the acceptance rate is around 8%, I talked to the MOI at Oregon State. But, giving I would have enlisted experiencen, it'd better my chances, right? Are there any flaws in this plan?

One can never say. It's a board full of humans. Who knows what they are looking for at any time? They may be looking for admin types the year you apply. Then the next year they may be looking for cops. Never can say.

NROTC (Marine option).
Since the Marine Coprs is part of the Navy, both Sailors and Marines attend the same ROTC and Academies. An applicant decides whether to become a 2LT in the Corps or an Ensign in the Navy. When they choose to be a 2LT, they are choosing the Marine option. There is NO such thing as "Marine NROTC"
