"split-option/IIADT"

I have heard that if I wanted to go into the USMCR while in college, I could do split-option/IIADT. I would go to boot camp one summer, then MOS school the next. So, if I did this, I would go to boot camp after High School graduation, then the next summer go to SOI.
What would I be doing during my first year of college with just boot camp completed? Would I be going to any Drills at a unit in my area?
Also, I was wondering if waiting a year between boot camp and SOI is a bad idea, any thoughts?
