need some advice

Hey i am going to enlist in the Marine corps. I am 17 years old in good physical condition, I'm looking at jobs right now, and i was wondering what are the more interesting jobs the corps has to offer? i scored a 90+ on my asvabs so i qualify for pretty much everything. There is only one more problem, i go to night school and i cant sign up for the DEP until i get my diploma in june, and i want to leave in september, but if i wait the jobs that i might want to do will be gone. Do you think it would be better to go in in september, or delay my entrance for anothe couple of months to secure a job? thats all for now, any help will be grately appreciated.

Re: need some advice

You can't really read the future on what is available now vs what will be available 6 months from now.

However, there are two things to consider and that ought to ease your concerns.

1. For the first time in a long, long time, the Marine Corps fell short of its recruiting goals, so it is unlikely that "all the good jobs" will be taken in the next couple of months.

2. Congress just authorized an increase in the size of the Marine Corps, so there will be more slots available.

As far as which jobs are interesting, I would suggest that you read through this forum to gather some basic info, go to Marines.com, and do some basic homework, then come back and ask some specific questions. Every MOS is interesting to someone, and most folks will talk well of the jobs that they do in the Corps. Define your interests, then ask specifics.

As far as PT - check out the Boot Camp Forum There is a ton of information here on PT programs.

Good luck

What you find interesting will probably not be what others find interesting. My interests tended toward A/C maintenance and I had a background in Elelectronics before I joined so that's waht I did, you might perfer to work on diesel truck engines. So like Vulture said, get into those sites and check out what's out there. You cant sign up on your own until you are 18 without your parents permission so waiting shouldnt be any big deal and getting you diploma is a prerequisite to join. If you are looking to delay your entrance to get a certain job you are going about it backward in my opinion, but what the heck I'm sort of Old Corps anyway.
