Wounded???
I heard that if you get wounded, you barely get anything (as in benefits). Is this true??? If so why is that?
Feel free to explain more on this topic, I would like to know all that I can. |

Re: Wounded???
If you are wounded but able to go back to "World Wide Status", that is you can seerve anywhere the Corps needs you, then no you dont get a lot of bennies except for the honor of continuing to serve. If you are wounded severely enough to require discharge you will receive a "Retired Under Medical Conditions" discharge and your bennies will be prorated on the severity of your disability and your rank at the time of discharge

Re: Wounded???
Here is something that may help you out with the question.
A MSgt that is on one of the teams had a piece of shrapnel peirce his right temple and exit through his right eye. Needless to say he lost the eye, but did not want to quit our job. So I gave him some of my paperwork that I had to do for my hip and he started the process for getting back all of his WWD (World Wide Deployable) qualifications. As of right now he has controlled about 10 different CAS missions (and did a damn good job) and has performed 2 static line jumps. He needs to perform 3 more (day) and then a night, night equipment, and a night MASS TAC. Once those squares are filled he will "acquire" his static line status back. After that he will try to "acquire" his HALO status as well. Now keep in mind he could have gotten out with a nice chunk of disability but he waived it (for a smaller chunk when he does retire) to stay in. Proof that you only need one eye to jump and control aircraft! |

Re: Wounded???
The only way that you get any sort of money if you are wounded is if you get disability and that amount depends on the injury. For instance, someone in a wheelchair will get more than someone who has a limp. But is you heal rigth and the wound isn't too bad then no extra pay for you.

Re: Wounded???
Planning on being wounded? If your question meant what type of benefits are granted to personnel injured in combat, that is different.

Re: Wounded???
There is a Lokata Proverb that goes "Young men see the glory in war, old men see the vanity"........I guess I'm finally old enough that being wounded in combat is not something I want to experience.

Re: Wounded???
Almost no awards system is perfect. It can't de-value the Aawrd. A lot of BSM have been awarded during this war. Many were not deserving, but it still doesn't/shouldn't make those brave men feel less valued.

Re: Wounded???
That's true because i've read some other posts about Marines loosing their arms but still wanting to serve. Have you ever seen that pic when he has no right hand but he's still saluting the american flag? I gotta look for that pic now.

Re: Wounded???
Spongejuan,
It's in "Marines: The Corps' Official Magazine" in the Summer 2004 edition, one page 20, top-left corner. That image definitely sticks with you. |
