As published in Jan/Feb 2005 Military Order of the Purple Heart magazine, sometime this year, 2005, the U.S.Postal Service will be issuing four (4) stamps depicting
Chesty Puller, LtGen. John A. Lejeune, SgtMaj. Dan Daly and GySgt. John Basilone. ![]() http://www.medalofhonor.com/MarineCorpsStamps.htm The denomination will be $ 0.37 with the set being called Distinguihed Marines A salute to Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer of the U.S.Postal Service, the Honorable John Potter for recognizing America's true heroes through the issuance of these and other services during his tenure as head of the Postal Service. Members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart may recall that their long fought battle for a Purple Heart Stamp met with success as one of the first orders of business following his appointment to the position of PMG by President George W.Bush. |

Re: Marine icons adorn 2005 stamps
Damn, it's about time. They have been trying to get "Manilla" John Basilone on a stamp for years. He's the only Marine in WWII to earn both the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. He died on Iwo Jima earning the Navy Cross.

Re: Marine icons adorn 2005 stamps
I remember during the cruicible they talked to us about what he did. We also did a little simulation of what he did. Running back and fourth with ammo cans full of sand (Every man carried one). And Topping it off with charging up this super fucking steep hill that's just pure sand. By the time I reached the top I couldn't move, but I was warcrying at the top of my lungs. Didn't he get one of his Medal of Honor by supplying machineguns with ammo for a couple of days? Despite the fact that he had wounds? Semper Fidelis to that marine!

Re: Marine icons adorn 2005 stamps
Just to nip it in the bud, before anyone asks. Gen. Lejune's stamp has the 2nd Infantry Division Patch on it, because the Marine Brigade was attached to the 2nd ID in WWI General Lejune was CG of the 2nd ID for a time. The patch on Sgt Major Daley's stamp has the 6th Marines insigina on it they also incorporateD the Indian Head of the 2nd ID during WWI.

Re: Marine icons adorn 2005 stamps
I love these stamps. They even have ones with medals like the PH, BSM, SS, DFC and two more that I couldn't get a good look at.
What I think would be even better is to take and print stamps of some of our recent hero's who have gave all. I know thats alot compared to the four above, but it will keep the postal service from having to drum up dumb ideas for stamps. |

About frickin' time someone who was not a pop star, Race activist, movie actor or cartoon makes it. No disrespect intended to the second group intended, but definately the other three! lol
