Marine, convicted of prisoner abuse, granted clemency

Associated Press

TOLEDO, Ohio — A Marine convicted of abusing an Iraqi prisoner was granted clemency last week and has returned to his base in North Carolina, his father said.

Andrew Sting of Bradner sought clemency after pleading guilty in May to giving electric shocks to an Iraqi prisoner he was guarding. He said he was following the order of his sergeant.

He was sentenced to a year in prison, a reduction of rank, forfeiture of pay and a bad-conduct discharge.

His father, Jeffery Sting, told The Toledo Blade newspaper that the commanding general of the 1st Marine Division issued the clemency order. Sting informed his son last Tuesday that he was granted clemency after receiving the news from his son’s military-appointed attorney.

Andrew Sting grew up in Saginaw, Mich., but moved to Bradner, a small farming village in northwest Ohio, just before joining the Marines.

He was home for a visit last week and returned to Camp Lejeune, N.C., his father said.

Re: Marine, convicted of prisoner abuse, granted clemency

I'd like to see the Marine Corps publish something about this before I take it seriously. Prisoner abuse should not be taken lightly, especially in the wake of the England bullshit. They (if this is true) could use it to help that dumb slut.

Re: Marine, convicted of prisoner abuse, granted clemency

"I was just following orders" has never been a justification for wrong doing in the US Military.

If this is in fact true story...then we are in for a world of shit. the Propagandists will eat us alive over this AND a really bad legal precident will have been established.
