Should cell phones be permitted on airline flights?

SSGMike.Ivy asked me to set this poll up on his behalf...

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security are objecting to a proposal to permit the use of cellular telephones and other wireless devices on airplanes. Unless telecommunications providers follow a lengthy list of eavesdropping requirements for calls made aloft, the FBI and Homeland Security don't want cellular or wireless connections to be permitted. Police agencies said any rule permitting "in-flight personal wireless telephone use must consider public safety and national security" concerns.

What do you think? Should cell phones be permitted on airline flights?

Two reasons. 1.) With the amount of technology and "little gadgets" that have been placed in cell phones, and 2.) Their effect on Navigational aids and equipment, I say no.

A lot of those road side bombs in Iraq are being set off with cell phones... I wonder what could happen in a plane?... I say no.

I agree, big security risk, not to mention that I don't want to listen to the person next to me yack about absolutely nothing to the person on the other end for the duration of the flight...

Most flights, at least the ones i've been on had a phone built into the armrest that you can use with a credit card. Of course its pretty expensive, but at least if you need to call someone you can. And I believe some of the first class have an internet hookup..... might be wrong on that one tho.... anyways, as far as it affecting the navigation on the airplane. it really doesn't, now the risk may increase with 1,000 phones going off in an airplane, but its doubtful.

I don't think so mainly for security reasons, but I agree with cfergusn too. I have to deal with too many rude people that use them already, and I hate flying, so that would make me even more uneasy on a plane.

I think cell phones should be allowed on planes, just not with batteries. This way, passengers have something handy to throw at hi jackers.

Actually, nix the cell phone as thrown weapon idea...so I change my vote to no, mostly cause I cant afford one so no one should be able to use em :P

I do think all women on flights should have to wear 6 inch stiletto high heals tho. That's be totally righteous for an arab highjackoffer to be slain by a bevvy of pissed off women swinging spikes.

I don't know how to do the quote thing,... but yes they could be used as a weapon, if you could ask my dad (deceased) who used to own a bar, he could tell you. But you try and walk around for even 15min. in heels like that... no *******way. ( Sorry for the language, lol).
